How to check UTM values through redirects

Check that campaign parameter values survive redirects, rather than merely checking that a key exists.

01

Keys alone are not enough

A URL can contain utm_campaign and still hold the wrong value. Start with a representative campaign URL, record its values, and compare all repeated values in order through every HTTP hop.

02

Include the rendered destination

JavaScript can redirect after the HTTP page loads. Check the final browser address as well. AdsWerk reports HTTP and rendered destination checks separately so missing browser coverage is visible.

03

Watch encoding and placeholders

Use real sample values rather than unexpanded ad macros. Inspect percent encoding and duplicate query keys. A URL still containing a literal campaign placeholder needs attention even if it returns HTTP 200.

04

Test your own campaign

Open the free checker with your public HTTPS campaign URL. To keep checking specific parameters, approve their key names in a workspace campaign. The original URL supplies the values to preserve.

Put the checklist to work.
